I was not ready for this.

Speechless

What does one say to a friend who has just announced her engagement to a man who has, on more then one occasion, beat the living crap out of her? The last time, he put her in the hospital. Somehow, "Congratulations!" just doesn't seem appropriate. And I don't believe "What the FUCK are you thinking?" would go over well. Any suggestions?

WTF?

So, a local bank vice president just pled guilty to embezzling 4.5 million dollars from the bank she worked for. She will serve a whole 5 years for what the prosecuter called "the largest embezzlement case in Southern Illinois history." And according to her lawyer, we should all feel sorry for this woman because "She has a shopping addiction." Really? Wtf?

Seen at WalMart today...

infant girls' onesies with the caption "Does this diaper make my butt look big?" Because you can't start that whole negative body image thing too early.

postal service

Sometimes I wonder about the intelligence/common sense/sanity of people around here. This evening, I came home from work and checked the mailbox. It was empty. However, sitting on my front porch, in plain view of anyone walking down the street, were the four boxes of new checks I had ordered. They were not wrapped in anything, or concealed in anyway and were quite plainly boxes of checks. If the general size and shape had not made that clear, the return address of a company called "CheckWorks" would have. Who in their right mind leaves that kind of thing sitting around out in the open were anyone could have stolen them? The boxes would have fit in the mailbox. Barring that, what ever happened to leaving a little card in the box notifying the recipient that they had a package to pick up at the post office? It kind of makes me wonder how many people have had checks stolen because the carrier lacked the brains/common sense to do anything other than leave to boxes sit there.
